National Week of the Nurse

Dear Colleagues,

As Week of the Nurse approaches, I reflect on thousands of lives touched by nurses at VCU Health this year and the impact each of you has made through your expertise and compassionate care.  Because of you, our future is bright. This year's National Week of the Nurse theme is: 4Million Reasons to Celebrate.

Through your pursuit of life-long learning, evidence-based practice, and interprofessional collaboration, we have improved our patients’ lives, our units’ effectiveness, and our organization’s ranking. Hospital acquired conditions, readmissions and mortality rates are down.  We continue to excel in the prevention of catheter associated urinary tract infections, central line blood stream infections, and pressure injuries.  The complexity of our patients increased and surgical volume and ambulatory practices grew.

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses has again recognized 13 of our units as Beacon and next January we will submit our fourth Magnet application.  It is my privilege to work with you, an incredible team of extraordinary nurses, whose passion and dedication permeates every facet of the care continuum.

Thank you for all you do…

Y-O-U are the reason we are successful in our community and Commonwealth.

Y-O-U are one of the 4Million Reasons to Celebrate Week of the Nurse.

You truly Rock!

Gratefully,

Deb Zimmermann,

Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services
